Mountain biking is a great sport but of course there are some risks involved
too so please follow these simple safety guidelines and be a responsible
rider.
You
It is the clubs policy that all riders attending organised rides must wear a
safety helmet. Always ride
within your capabilities and skills, remember it’s not a race!
If you are unfortunate enough to have an accident, stay put and
someone will come back to find you.
If you decide to leave the group before the end of a ride let the
ride leader know.
Bike
Whatever type of bike you ride, check before leaving that it
is safe and the tyres, brakes and gears are all in good order.
Tools
Bring
a basic tool kit; a cycling specific
multi-tool or a range of Allen keys and a small flat head and Philips
screwdrivers. Also bring a pump, tyre levers, puncture repair kit and
ideally a spare inner tube, it is easier to replace a tube than to fix a
puncture.
Clothing & Fuel
Be prepared for all weather conditions, layers of clothing that can
be adjusted is best. Take a lightweight waterproof jacket even in fine
weather. Padded cycling shorts are recommended and can be worn under
leggings or shorts in cold conditions.
Bring a water bottle and some food or sweets in case you need a
boost!
Conduct
Give way to horse riders and pedestrians, slow down, say 'Hello'
Don't interfere with wildlife, plants or trees
Keep to the planned routes
Always close gates behind you and take rubbish with you.
Keep away from Forestry operations
Expect the unexpected!
At all times please be considerate and courteous to those you meet on route
Slow down when approaching and travelling through farmyards
…
and above all enjoy MTB’ing!
